Area:

Prepare to bedazzle your hosts, friends and crushes. This year, there will be no shortage of shimmer, sparkles or shine when it comes to creating a memorable party makeup look. Why? Glitter, metallic eyeshadows and glimmering highlighters have that special ability to catch and reflect light, making your skin and features stand out when it counts the most, when the mood light is set to low, for the best parties of the year.

Glitter Eyes

From subtle shimmer to dazzling sparkle, glitter adds real magic to eye makeup. Choose from a variety of colours, textures, and finishes, such as gold, silver, pink, or holographic. To create a glitter eye look, you can use a luminous eyeshadow or a glitter liner. Always make sure, though, you are using a product intended for makeup. Apply the glitter on the eyelids or along the lash line. You can also add the glitter liberally on the brow bone and the cheekbone.

You might want to personalize the glitter for a look that’s all yours alone and matches (or not!) your ‘fit. For example, try a smoky eye with black and silver glitter, or a colourful eye with pink and red glitter — yes, together these two shades make a strong fashion statement. To make your glitter last longer, use a makeup primer.

For an ultra-dramatic look, opt for a set of long and full sweeping magnetic lashes. They are super easy to apply and you don’t have to deal with the cumbersome glue. Just apply one or two coats of the magnetic primer, let the lashes stick, and you’re off for a full night of fun and glam!

Dark Cherry Lips

If you still haven’t given in to lip blush, which is amazing to create that slight — just bit — lip stain that you finish off with a lip oil or intensify with a tinge of pencil, make it a point to go to the dark side with a bolder lip colour. The palette of cherry reds is intensifying, and the colour experts believe this will be a mainstay shade in 2024. Be ahead of the curve on this one before the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve and test-drive the cherry blossom crop, now.

These darker pigmented colours are offered in a variety of finishes, such as matte, glossy, or metallic. And they come in the shape of classic lipstick, liner, gloss, or stain. To create a look that stands up to the endless array of chic hors d’oeuvres and drinks — not to mention multiple passages under the mistletoe — use a lip liner to define and enhance your lip shape.

Choose a shade that’s either very close to your natural lip colour or one that matches the lipstick or stain. You can also layer different shades of lipsticks and lip crayons for a multidimensional effect. For example, you can try a red lip with a gold gloss, or a burgundy lip with a silver metallic finish. To make your bold lips last longer, use a lip primer.

Dewy Skin

Some say dewy skin is an almost predestined combination of youth, good genes, and high performance dermatological treatments. OK, but no. Radiant skin is possible to achieve for a positively glowing finish that bounces off light beautifully. It creates a natural and healthy appearance, while enhancing features. To get your dewy skin, you need three simple things: moisturizer, foundation, and highlighter. This works for any age or skin colour.

Start by hydrating skin with a good moisturizer that suits your skin type. You can also use a serum or an oil for extra hydration. This will help your skin retain moisture and prevent dryness or flakiness, an important point in our glorious Canadian winters.

Even out your skin tone with a foundation that has a luminous finish. You can also use a tinted moisturizer or a BB cream for a lighter coverage. This will help your skin look smooth and flawless, and create a base for your blush and powder.

Then draw light to your features with a highlighter that has a light shimmer or a glow. You can use a liquid, cream, or powder highlighter, depending on your preference. Apply the highlighter on the high points of your face, such as your cheekbones, brow bones, nose, and cupid’s bow. This will help your face the light and create a subtle shine.

Feel beautiful and have fun during the holiday season!
